About the film:
The Challenge (2023), also known as Vyzov, is a Russian space drama film. It is notable as the world’s first feature-length fiction film with scenes shot in space by professional filmmakers, specifically aboard the International Space Station (ISS).
Thoracic surgeon Zhenya has just one month to prepare for a spaceflight to the ISS, where she must perform a life-saving operation on a sick cosmonaut. Facing her fears and the extreme conditions of space, she must carry out a complex procedure in zero gravity — with one man’s life hanging in the balance.
The film was a collaboration between the Russian space corporation Roscosmos and Channel One, with filming taking place in orbit for nearly two weeks. It premiered in Russia on April 12, 2023, on World Cosmonautics Day, the anniversary of Yuri Gagarin’s first spaceflight.
